Bible Grant Request

This is the sixth year we have offered free scriptures to established congregations, institutions or organized ministries in Connecticut. Bibles will not be granted to individuals. The receiving organization must be tax exempt. Last year we made 20 grants, giving away thousands of free bibles.

You must apply for these grants, using the following form.

Bibles must be used only for outreach and evangelism purposes to men or women, boys or girls. You cannot just hand out bibles. You cannot use these Bibles in your own church for the use of the congregation or Sunday school. They will only be granted if the free Bibles are used as a part of an external Bible study or introduction program to the Christian life, or for prospective new church members, or neighboring Bible study, or gifting to a shelter or hospital. Bibles are offered in many languages.

Hospitals and prisons do not qualify, as they are covered under another set of free grants from the American Bible Society.

We are especially anxious to give free bibles to the poor, culturally deprived, single parent families and the disenfranchised. In all cases, you must describe how you are bringing people to “embrace  the scriptures” through study, sharing, worship and fellowship. Bibles must be used only in Connecticut, and cannot be sold.

Materials in the grant program are limited to those shown in the American Bible Society catalog. Some items are not available for free grants. American Bible Society in New York is the final grantor of free materials.

Due to a dramatic cut-back in giving, American Bible Society is providing us much less free Bible funding this year. Grants will be given on a “first-come” basis, so you need to apply immediately.
